spectroheliograph

An instrument for obtaining images of all or part of the Sun in monochromatic light. An entrance slit selects the slice of the Sun to be observed. The light is dispersed into a spectrum by means of a diffraction grating, and a second slit is used to select the narrow region of the spectrum to be observed. By using the entrance slit to scan the whole of the solar disc, a full image can be generated.
